You’re probably all sick and tired of next spring by now (and it’s only fall!). As a means of closure, here’s my personal review of the season. Overall, the trends that I saw consistently appearing throughout FASHION MONTH were:
- Monochromatic looks – mainly in white, black, nude, blue, green and pink
- Structured minimalism
- Sheer panels
- Long and wide structured short-sleeves
- 60’s inspired looks
- Ancient Japanese-inspired looks
- Dominatrix-inspired looks
- Long, prairie-style skirts
- Over-sized ruffles
- Large prints
- Stripes
- Snakeskin
- Lace
The mixture of heavier, structured fabrics and light, sheer silks in monochromatic hues were my favorite looks from this season. Sally LaPointe (New York), Cushnie et Ochs (New York), Willow (London), Sportmax (Milan) and Stella McCartney (Paris) all had stellar shows in my eye. I appreciate a more modern, forward-thinking aesthetic over historical/past-inspired ones, and each of the above designers stood out from the shows for this very reason. They all presented something new and fresh, instead of reinterpretations from eras passed, and although the past always circulates back, I think these more modern looks are slowly evolving into the new look of our generation.
